Whither Owl & Bear? Mostly Meditation Mount

Two years have passed since we returned from Mexico. The blog has lain fallow for far too long. I suppose, dear reader, I should catch you up.

We flew from Mexico City to LAX, ultimately landing for what we thought was a short stay in Ojai. The plan was two weeks at Meditation Mount, a month at Ryan’s place and a month in Marcus and Eva’s guest house. Then… who knows where?

It didn’t work out that way. The opportunity to stay longer at the Mount presented itself. We said yes.

Only a handful of people live at Meditation Mount at any one time, and everyone contributes to the tight-knit community. I took on the web stuff, close up at night and move around plenty of chairs. AliSun works with the plants for sale and more recently has taken on the role of temple keeper. We both lead meditations.

In short, I feel blessed every day to live in a place of such immense beauty and presence.

We’ve taken a couple trips in the last two years. We spent four months on Maui in the rain forest of Haiku on the north shore. Our dear friends Jon & Elena got married and did the digital nomad thing starting in Cuba, while we took over their place.

It was rather painful extracting AliSun from Maui’s magical rainbow light, beautiful beaches and aloha vibe. I have promised her a return and an extended stay.

Last summer, we headed up north for six weeks. We stayed in Cazadero for a month, renting Mark & Wendy’s place while they traveled. Then onward to Ashland, Grant’s Pass to see my Uncle Bob and back through Mount Shasta to stay with Tom & Carolyn.

And now at the Mount, spring has been in full bloom, fading a bit even as some plants blossom late. We’re heading out soon for New England. We’ll visit some remarkable spiritual centers, charming towns steeped in history and scenic drives through forests and mountains.

I guess this update is my way of saying heads-up – new posts coming soon!

Wishing you health and happiness, and an abundance of joy.

  1. Take the opportunities as they come… as I type that I realize We still ha net taken our opportunity to visit you at Meditation Mount. It sounds amazing and I really hope we do get a chance to visit and see you two there sometime in the near future.

We too have been contemplating spending some time around New England and the mid west this fall/winter. Nothing certain yet, just a desire to be near friends so do let us know.
