Images from the Dolphin Bay Preserve

We leave Boquete tomorrow. I find myself catching up on processing images taken in Bocas Del Toro over a week ago. This happened to me in Europe – I gave up posting four days into a month-long trip. I add blogging to my task management application. I commit to myself, I share my commitment with Ali Sun. I take a …

Adventures of Dolphin Bay Preserve

We set sail for Dolphin Bay Preserve one rainy and stormy day. Choppy waters abound as we bounce from wave to wave upon Ponti’s boat taxi. Tyler and I have been looking forward to this adventure the whole trip and it is our last day here on the islands. Heather is excited to share this land with us as it …

Bocas Del Toro Birthday and the Ping Pong Table

Happy Birthday, Heather!  I stay back to work, hand-wash some laundry, pick up a fish sandwich at Bibi’s On The Beach.  Ali Sun and friends go to Starfish Beach.  I miss out on an adventure here and there, but I need to retain the discipline of working while we travel. Waiting at the bar, I look east towards Solarte and …

On the way to Starfish Beach

It’s Heather Rose’s birthday and she decides on Starfish Beach for our adventure today. It appears to be a good beach day, so we gather our things and make our way towards the boat taxi. Once arriving to Bocas by boat taxi, we could either take a bus or pay a few extra dollars for our own taxi. We see …

Off to see the wizard…

Boots in hand and our minds on chocolate truffles, we make our way towards Wizard Beach. On the way, we come upon Warrio’s grandmothers house where we enjoy a short visit together. Warrio’s dog comes out to greet us. The land behind his grandparents home, a gift from his grandfather upon his passing, now belongs to Warrio. One day, Warrio, …

Luminessence Farm – a plant spirit oasis

It’s a rainy day on the island, however, we are determined to make our way out for another adventure. Heather makes a spontaneous call to a friend who has a beautiful farm on an island close by. He graciously invites us over to the land. Thirty minutes later, we are at Rancho Bull, our boat landing, where we will meet …

In the presence of nature…between the rains.

In the time and space between the rains here on the island, I eagerly took hold of my camera and went for a spontaneous walk around the island. The presence of nature here is so beautiful and alive.

A Walk Around Isla Carenero

We take an hour walk around the island, pausing for appetizers and a drink at the Cosmic Crab. The transition from very wealthy to dirt poor is startling. Photos below.

A Day On Captain and Tennille’s Catamaran

We are on a catamaran named Chewbacca, Captained by Marcel and his wife, Tennille. Seriously. The boat backs out of its slip, chugging gently south through the gap between Isla Carenero and Bocas Del Toro. Fourteen of us, mostly Americano, sprawl across the deck and nets of the vessel. Twenty minutes out, the water shifts between patches of postcard blue, …

The Rainforests are the lungs of the planet.

“The rainforests are the lungs of the planet”, says my dear friend, Heather Rose, so it it’s no surprise that you are experiencing a clearing in your lungs.” Yes, I add, I don’t feel sick, just a deep clearing, especially coming from such a dry climate for the past several years. Yesterday, I felt a subtle stagnation in my lungs, …
